Nuclear localization of the transcriptional activator NFkB ( nuclear factor kappa beta) is controlled in mammalian cells by three isoforms of NFkB inhibitor protein: IkBa (I-Kappa-Beta-alpha),IkBd (I-Kappa-Beta-Delta), and IkBe (I-Kappa-Beta-Epsilon) .Based on simplifying reductions of the IkB/ NFkB signaling module in knockout cell lines, the authors present a computational model that describes the temporal control of NFkB activation by the coordinated degradation and synthesis of IkB proteins.
